The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has issued an arrest warrant against the kin of the kingpin in the alleged cattle smuggling case, Enamul Haque. Enamul Haque was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) West Bengal cattle smuggling case. Enamul was earlier arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in November 2020 but was granted bail by the Supreme Court later on.

An arrest warrant has been issued against three accused, identified as Humayun Kabir, Mehedi Hasan and Jahangir Alam, nephew of Enamul Haque, who is the mastermind of the case. West Bengal CID issued an appearance notice to three of them earlier but they failed to appear before the central agency. CID is conducting a parallel investigation after the CBI started a probe in the cattle smuggling case.

Enamul Haque is the alleged kingpin of cattle smuggling across the India-Bangladesh border. According to officials, he used to bribe the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, politicians and local villagers to continue his business smoothly. It was alleged that the smuggling of cattle along the India-Bangladesh border was carried out at Haque’s instance and he paid bribes to the security personnel for facilitation of the trade.

In August, Anubrata Mandal, a senior member of the Trinamool Congress and the party’s Birbhum district president, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the cattle smuggling case.

RAIDS CONDUCTED

A few days ago, a team of West Bengal CID conducted raid at the office of these three accused and seized a few documents from the premises. The sleuths sealed the offices of all relatives of Enamul Haque after completing the search operation. Following the search operation, a notice was issued to Humayun Kabir, Mehedi Hasan and Jahangir Alam to appear before the investigating officer in the cattle smuggling case. But they ignored the notice again and again.

The central agency also arrested a few people for their alleged involvement in a cattle smuggling case in West Bengal. In August, Barik Biswas was also arrested by Bengal CID for his alleged involvement in the case across the Indo-Bangladesh International border.
