Droupadi Murmu, former Jharkhand governor, National Democratic Alliance’s presidential candidate, will file her nomination on June 24, Friday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be proposing her name for the nomination today, which will be seconded by the party’s national president, JP Nadda, reported news agency ANI, quoting sources.
The BJP has invited all of their allies to join in the nomination ceremony, including Chief Ministers of NDA-ruled states, sources told ANI. Droupadi Murmu left for the Parliament from Odisha Bhawan on Friday morning to file her nomination.

DROUPADI MURMU MEETS PM MODI
On Thursday, the 64-year-old former Jharkhand governor also met PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that Droupadi Murmu’s presidential nomination has been appreciated by all sections of society.
“Met Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji. Her Presidential nomination has been appreciated across India by all sections of society. Her understanding of grassroots problems and vision for India’s development is outstanding,” PM Modi said in a tweet.

“Met NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu and conveyed best wishes to her. Tribal society is feeling very proud by the announcement of her name. I am sure her administrative and public experience will benefit the whole country,” Shah tweeted in Hindi.
The YSR Congress has also announced its support to the candidature of NDA’s nominee Draupadi Murmu, hailing her nomination for the top constitutional post.
“It is a good sign that a person from a tribal community, that too a woman, has been nominated for the President’s post for the first time in the history of independent India. Hence, the YSRC extends its support to her,” the CMO release said.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai also reached Delhi on Thursday to be present during the filing of nominations by BJP presidential candidate, reported PTI.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has also backed Murmu for the presidential post. Earlier, the Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had requested all the lawmakers of Odisha to support Murmu’s candidature.
WHO IS DROUPADI MURMU?
Born in the Santhal community, Droupadi Murmu began her political career as a councillor in Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat in 1997 and rose through the ranks to become a minister in the Odisha government in 2000 and later the Governor of Jharkhand in 2015.
A two-term former MLA from Rairangpur, Droupadi Murmu held on to her assembly seat in 2009 when the BJD had snapped ties with the BJP weeks ahead of the state elections which were swept by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Droupadi Murmu also holds the distinction of becoming the first woman Governor of Jharkhand. If elected, Murmu will also be the first president to be born after Independence.
