Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday instructed the BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) to conduct an inquiry into the caving in of the Jnanabharathi main road in Bengaluru. The road was recently repaired ahead of the prime minister’s visit to the city.

The BBMP had spent around Rs 23 crore on re-developing and repairing a stretch of the road that spanned about 14 kilometres. However, after rains lashed the city, the road reportedly caved in on Tuesday.

Local residents said that this is the second time that the road has caved in the locality. As per reports, the same road was asphalted previously in April, when PM Modi’s visit was scheduled and later postponed. The road had supposedly caved in then as well. Preliminary reports suggest that the road caved in due to leakage of a water pipe.

When asked about the issue, CM Basavaraj Bommai said that he will get it probed if details are furnished. He also asked the BBMP to take appropriate action against the officers who are responsible for the situation.
