As the political turmoil in Maharashtra deepened with rebel Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde claiming the support of more MLAs, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut expressed confidence that his party would win the floor test in the Assembly. Raut also said that Shiv Sena gave an opportunity to leaders who left, but now it’s too late.

Raut further challenged the rebel MLAs for a floor test, adding that the ruling Maha-Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government will complete the rest of 2.5 years.

“We will win on the Floor of the House, we won’t give up. They (MLAs) have taken a very wrong step. We also gave them a chance to return to Mumbai. Now, we challenge them to come to Mumbai,” Raut told ANI.

Sanjay Raut was quoted by ANI as saying, “CM Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar ji are in constant touch. All leaders of NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena are in touch with each other.” (sic)

The Shiv Sena faction headed by CM Uddhav Thackeray has written to the Deputy Speaker of the Maharashtra Assembly, demanding disqualification of a total of 16 MLAs from the rebel Eknath Shinde camp.

Raut also alleged that BJP is threatening NCP chief Sharad Pawar. A central minister of the BJP has said that if attempts are made to save MVA government, then Sharad Pawar will not be allowed to go home. Whether or not the MVA govt survives, use of such language for Sharad Pawar is not acceptable,” Sanjay Raut tweeted.

On Thursday night, Eknath Shinde wrote to the Deputy Speaker of Maharashtra Assembly Narhari Zirwal asserting his appointment as the leader of the Shiv Sena Legislature Party. The NCP and the Congress are still backing the Uddhav camp despite its dwindling numbers.

All MLAs of the Shinde camp are currently at Radisson Blu hotel in Guwahati, Assam, a BJP-ruled state.
