Braving the strong currents of the flood waters, two young men saved two minors from being swept away in flood waters in Sankardev Nagar of Morigaon district in Assam on Thursday.

Two young men saved two minors from being swept away by strong currents of flood water in Sankardev Nagar of Morigaon district in Assam.
The incident occurred when the minors, aged about five and six years, accidentally slipped and fell in the flood waters while crossing a road on Thursday. A video taken by a bystander captured the children being washed away by the strong water currents.
The two young men, who were fishing nearby, immediately plunged into the water, braving the strong currents and pulled out the children safely. The two men were identified as Dipul Deori and Ananta Deori of Sidhabari area of Morigaon.
Dipul Deori said, “The kids lost balance and fell in the flood water. They are aged about five and six years.”
“While fishing, we saw the kids fall in the water and we immediately jumped into the water to save them. We first pulled the younger boy to safety and then rescued the girl. Both of them got saved from being swept away,” said Ananta Deori.
ASSAM FLOOD SITUATION
Floods and landslides have wreaked havoc in Assam since April this year and the death toll has now reached 107, of which 17 people have died in the landslides. The flood situation in Assam continues to remain grim with more than 45 lakh people affected. A total of 4,536 villages across 30 districts of the state are still reeling under the flood waters.
Over 1.06 lakh people in 270 villages are still suffering due to the deluge in Morigaon district.
