Uddhav Thackeray’s Sena gets permission to hold Dussehra rally

The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena has been granted permission to hold a rally between October 2 and October 6. The Shiv Sena faction led by former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray had moved the Bombay High Court seeking permission to hold its annual Dussehra rally at Shivaji Park in central Mumbai.

Following the court’s order, Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi tweeted, “One party leader, One Shiv Sena, One Shivtirtha. A single Dussehra gathering. On 5th October, the tiger’s roar will be heard..!”

The Bombay High Court, while granting permission to Uddhav Thackeray’s Sehiv Sena to hold Dussehra rally, asked them to ensure that law and order is maintained during the event.

The plea filed by Uddhav Thackeray’s Sena stated that in 1966, when Shiv Sena was formed as a political party, even at that time, a Dussehra rally was held.

The plea stated that Shiv Sena has held a rally at Shivaji Park every year since 1966. In 1989, the party was registered, and even when the issue of Shivaji Park being a recreational ground where such events should not be held was raging, the Bombay High Court had granted the party permission to hold the rally from 2015 to 2019.

The plea further said the party had filed an application seeking permission to hold a Dussehra rally at Shivaji Park after two years of lockdown. However, the party received no reply from the corporation.

“For the purposes of holding its usual Dussehra Melawa/rally at Shivaji Park on October 5, 2022, from 5.00 pm to 10.00 pm, the petitioners made applications to the BMC for grant of permission on August 22 and August 26, 2022,” the plea said, adding, “However, despite the fact that more than 20 days have elapsed and the scheduled date is only a fortnight away, the BMC has yet to respond or grant the said permission.”

The Bombay High Court has now granted permission to the party to hold Dussehra rally.
