Uttarakhand plans govt ‘Modi circuit’ to cover PM’s ‘Man vs Wild’ trail

The Uttarakhand tourism department is working on a plan to develop a ‘Modi Circuit’ at the Jim Corbett National Park, covering the areas visited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a special episode of the survival reality show ‘Man vs Wild’ with Bear Grylls. The officials have started identifying the place for tourists to stay and visit at the places visited by PM Modi during the shooting of the show inside the park in 2019.

“The idea for a Modi Circuit popped up when I heard about the Game of Thrones tour during a visit to Croatia, covering the locations where the popular television series was shot,” Uttarakhand Minister of Tourism Satpal Maharaj.

PM Modi had undertaken a slew of adventure activities while shooting for an episode of ‘Man vs Wild’.During the shoot, Modi and Grylls crossed the Kosi river on a makeshift raft and walked through a tiger trail, with the prime minister holding a spear in his hand.

Satpal Maharaj had announced ‘Modi Circuit’ in 2020 after PM Modi shot for the ‘Man vs Wild’ show but no progress was made after three years.

“PM Modi shot an episode of Man vs Wild with Bear Grylls on Discovery channel. He had walked through a tiger trail, swam across the river and shared his experience which was seen by many people. In view of this, the Modi Trail will be shown to wildlife tourists in the future,” the Uttarakhand minister said.

“During the episode, PM Modi made a spear with Bear Grylls. We will show Modi Trail on mobile phones to give an experience to wildlife tourists,” he added.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a big influencer of our times. Places that he visits generate great interest among people,” Colonel Ashvini Pundir, Additional CEO of the adventure sports wing of the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board, told PTI.

The ‘Modi circuit’ will further boost tourism at the Corbett Tiger Reserve, which is already a popular tourist destination, he added.

However, the details of the plan are still being worked out, Pundir said.

The spots inside the reserve visited by Modi and Grylls during the shoot will first be identified. Then it will be seen what arrangements can be made to take tourists to those spots, Pundir said.
